Sheridan County 2020 June Primary Mail Ballot Election

Due to the global outbreak of the Covid-19 Novel Coronavirus, Montana Governor Steve Bullock issued Executive Orders 2-2020 and 3-2020 declaring that a state of emergency exists in Montana.  On March 25, 2020 Governor Bullock issued a Directive implementing these executive orders and providing measures to implement the 2020 June Primary Election safely.  This Directive gave all Montana Counties the ability to run the 2020 June Primary Election as a mail ballot election.  Sheridan County has chosen to run the election as a mail ballot election to help protect Sheridan County’s voters and election judges.

What this will look like for Sheridan County Voters

  • All Sheridan County registered voters with an ACTIVE status will be mailed ballots on Friday, May 8, 2020. Ballots should arrive to voters within a week.
  • Registered voters with an INACTIVE status will need to contact the Clerk & Recorder/Election’s Office to reactivate themselves and receive a ballot.
  • Regular voter registration has been extended and will close on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at 5pm.
  • Late registration begins on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 and will end Tuesday, June 2, 2020 (Election Day) at 8:00pm. Late registration will not be available Monday, June 1, 2020 from noon to 5:00pm.
  • Early in-person voting at the Clerk & Recorder/Election’s Office will be available from Monday, May 4, 2020 through Election Day.
  • The ExpressVotes (ADA compliant) ballot marking machine will be available at the Clerk & Recorder/Elections Office from Monday, May 4, 2020 through Election Day.
  • All postage for returning ballots to the Clerk & Recorder/Election’s Office has been prepaid.
  • The Montana Ballot Interference Prevention Act(BIPA) (13-35-701 MCA) allows for a caregiver, family member, household member, or acquaintance to collect a voter’s ballot and deliver it to the Election’s Office. A person may not collect and convey more than six ballots per election.  If you are physically dropping off a ballot at the Election’s Office that is not your own, you will need to fill out a BIPA form.  These forms will be included in your ballot mailings (purple paper) or are available at the Clerk & Recorder/Election’s Office.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact the Sheridan County Clerk & Recorder/Election’s Office.  We can assist with voter registration questions, registration status, BIPA questions, questions on dates and processes, etc.

The Sheridan County Courthouse is currently locked to the public.  If you need to register to vote, drop off paperwork, would like to vote early in-person, or need to drop off ballots, please phone the Clerk & Recorder/Election’s Office ahead of time to receive instructions.  Please note that all members of the public entering the Courthouse will need to undergo screening before being admitted.
